Jazmine Landry

Jazmine Landry was the Black and Puerto Rican mother of Elliot Landry. She raised Elliot in Pine Hollow, Alabama, while working multiple low-paying jobs and advocating for him in school and medical settings. In adulthood, mother and son lived together in Upper Manhattan before Elliot moved to Baltimore and Jazmine maintained her own home in New York City.

Early Life and Background

Jazmine was born in July 1986 and was seventeen when Elliot was born in November 2003. She served as his primary caregiver in Pine Hollow during a childhood shaped by persistent poverty, medical needs, and abuse by Sean Landry, the son of Jazmine’s former partner Vernon Landry.

Jazmine worked several low-paying jobs to support the household. By winter 2019, she worked in the produce section at J&R Foods, where Lucille managed both her and Elliot. Lucille and Jazmine prepared bakery inventory together, and Lucille referred Jazmine to a furniture-assistance nonprofit when Elliot’s too-small bed was worsening his pain. After the family obtained a queen-size bed, Lucille and the store crew pooled money for sheets, pillows, and a comforter.

Health and Access

Jazmine developed heart disease after years of overwork, chronic stress, and financial instability. Her treatment required a brand-name medication that cost approximately $400 per month and was not covered by standard Medicaid. On her former income, she sometimes stretched or skipped doses or used generic alternatives that caused debilitating side effects.

After Elliot became financially stable through his work with Jacob Keller, he paid for the medication. Once Jazmine moved to New York, Logan Weston and Julia Weston connected her with cardiology specialists she had not been able to access in rural Alabama. Consistent medication, specialist care, and greater financial stability brought the condition under better management.

Personality

Jazmine responded directly when educators, medical staff, or relatives minimized Elliot’s needs. Her advocacy was practical: she left work when he was taken to the emergency room, remained with him during medical crises, and helped him communicate when pain or distress made that difficult.

Cultural Identity and Heritage

Jazmine was Black and Puerto Rican. She raised Elliot in rural Alabama and later lived in New York City.

Employment

Jazmine supported herself and Elliot through multiple low-paying jobs. Her documented employment included produce work at J&R Foods in 2019.
